Scunthorpe Zine Fest, to our knowledge, is the first Zine event put on in the town and will returns this year for it’s third year! Coke-Oven is a proud sponsor of Zine events but with Scunthorpe being the origin of our namesake it seemed apt that we would play a part in founding and funding a Zine shindig in the town. We hope to bring out the creative and counterculture of the area and hopefully draw in other makers from across the country!
Our aim with the event is to give people the space, the opportunity and agency to create and express their voice.
We believe Zines are a great way to do that.
2025 will be the second year of the event which we are hoping to continue annually, so we are looking for any and all to get involved. Scunthorpe Zine Fest 2025 will take place on August 30th 2025 in Cafe Indie on Scunthorpe High Street. Where there will be people tabling to show off their Zines from the majority of the day!
So, whether you’ve been debating making one, have never heard of them or are an avid Zine maker/collector we hope you’ll pop along and support the first show. More info of who will be tabling and details of the day will be available later in the year and through our Instagram!

Manchester-based quartet Arkayla return to Westview Live for a Headline show not to be missed.
Since their formation in 2020, Arkayla have soared through the indie music scene, bursting onto the radar with a series of high-energy singles that have earned them widespread acclaim and a fiercely loyal fanbase.
Their debut single, ‘Calling Time,’ quickly garnered attention, not only in their hometown but also on a national scale. Since then, the group’s sound, a blend of guitar riffs reminiscent of The Smiths and the melodic charm of The La’s, has earned them support from the likes of BBC Radio 6’s Guy Garvey and Radio X’s John Kennedy.
All working class charm and wit, it blends their indie appeal with some frisky Brazilian rhythms.
Introducing The Kowloons, a fresh Liverpool band revitalising Britpop with their fusion of jangly harmonies and Northern acoustic garage pop. Formed in 2022 by twin brothers Stephen Ng (vocals) and Anthony Ng (drums), the lineup expanded to include Mason Jones (guitar) and Bobby Griffiths (bass).
The Kowloons have quickly established themselves as one to watch in the emerging wave of Merseyside bands. Boasting a powerful songwriting prowess beyond their years, as displayed in the first euphoric single off their debut EP, ‘Can We Go Faster?’, which is to be followed by the thunderous second track ‘Raining (It Don’t Stop)’.
The Kowloons celebrate the concise, chorus-driven style of Northern hits, featuring thoughtful lyrics inspired by a wealth of film and literature. Their sound is rich and nostalgic, sounding like a lost polaroid from your youth, wrapped up in catchy hooks and melodies.
They’re on a fast track to success, and their journey is one you won’t want to miss.
The Cases are a four-piece from hailing from Preston. They’re made up of Harry (vocals & rhythm guitar), Will (lead guitarist), James (bassist), and Matt (drums).
“A sonic trip right back to the glory days of 2000’s indie”
With their catchy hooks and mile-a-minute drumming they’ll have you addicted after your first listen.

Sam Brookes makes his first ever appearance for a special, intimate candle lit Friday evening with us and the legends from Toms Music Trust
Following the release of the album ‘Black Feathers’ the title track has recently been used in Sky’s biggest original Series ‘The Day on the Jackal’ starring Eddie Redmayne.
Music Supervised by Emmy Nominated Catherine Greeves (Baby Reindeer, Killing Eve) Black Feathers released in 2020 was produced by grammy nominated producer Dom Monks (Big Thief, Laura Marling, Nick Cave) Brookes was accompanied by a wealth of talented musicians which included Ethan Johns, Neil Cowley, Nick Pini, Daisy Palmer, Sam Sweeney & Rob Pemberton Sam Brookes is reminiscent of Tim Buckley as he glides between the lower and upper registers of his four-octave range. His pure voice, evocative lyrics and soaring melodies have cemented him as a respected figure in the alt-folk scene as an artist & collaborator. Inspired by the British and American folk revivalists of the 60’s,
A sixteen-year-old Brookes began to write and perform while training as a gilder in his late father’s workshop. Brookes had begun to receive serious critical recognition when he self-released album, Kairos, being acclaimed by The Independent as one of the stand-out records of 2014 and tipped for the mercury nomination. The past couple of years has seen Brookes collaborate with artist & producer Pete Josef releasing music as Supalung. Brookes is currently recording a new solo material with a releases set for early 2025.
